Description Jozsef Daniel 2006-09-13 08:58:30 UTC
I can't open pdf files with ghostscript-based applications since I installed my new Gentoo system.

GGV doesn't even appear to support pdf files - doesn't list them in browse mode, and refuses to display them with a "not a valid postscript document" message.

GV does display their FIRST page, but no more, and gives an error message about a gs call having failed.
The output on the terminal is as follows:

Error: /undefinedfilename in --file--
Operand stack:
   PDFfile (/Handbook\\ for\\ Bloggers\\ and\\ Cyberdissidents\\ \\\(GB\\\).pdf) (r)
Execution stack:
   %interp_exit .runexec2 --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- 2 %stopped_push --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- false 1 %stopped_push 1 3 %oparray_pop 1 3 %oparray_pop 1 3 %oparray_pop 1 3 %oparray_pop .runexec2 --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- 2 %stopped_push --nostringval--
Dictionary stack:

Current allocation mode is local
Last OS error: 2
Current file position is 1911
GPL Ghostscript 8.54: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1

This is extremely strange. Evince and poppler are a great way of viewing pdf files, but still, I don't like broken functionality.

does it work with ghostscript-esp by any chance? Since gv is rather unmaintained I dont think this issue will get fixed upstream and I dont want to fix it myself either ..
