Description Bo Ørsted Andresen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-11 23:26:03 UTC
[ebuild R ] kde-base/kmail-3.5.2-r4 USE="crypt kdehiddenvisibility -arts -debug -kdeenablefinal -xinerama" 0 kB

When I quit kmail after having used it for a while it occasionally happens that it crashes. I haven't quit figured out how to reproduce it but it has happened often enough to convince that is can be reproduced. I'm attaching the backtrace (which is always the same). Any ideas on how to track this one down are appreciated.

Comment 2 Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-18 05:24:31 UTC
Can you try out kmail 3.5.4 and see if the problem persists?
Comment 3 Bo Ørsted Andresen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-18 06:13:35 UTC
Well, three weeks ago I downgraded KDE from 3.5.4 to latest stable (due to a desire to have a stable system). This issue has occured after that. kmail-3.5.4 crashed maybe once every 2 weeks or so. kmail-3.5.2-r4 crashes at least once every day... Should I upgrade all of KDE to 3.5.4?
Comment 4 Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-18 06:26:42 UTC
I'd guess that the downgrade is the culprit of this bug, but it's tough to say.

At the very least, I'd recommend upgrading to just kmail 3.5.4 and see if that makes the problems go away.
Comment 5 Carsten Lohrke (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-18 08:43:30 UTC
I've just committed 3.5.4-r2, which fixes lots of crash issues. Please give it a try.

I had to add the following list to /etc/portage/package.keywords. I am upgrading now. I'll report back as soon as I know the outcome of this... Thanks.

Comment 7 Bo Ørsted Andresen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-19 07:45:14 UTC
So far I have experienced no issues with kmail 3.5.4-r2.
Comment 8 Bo Ørsted Andresen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-19 23:07:41 UTC
Soo.. now the first crash after the transition to kmail-3.5.4-r2 occurred. The reason as revealed by the backtrace was quite different though. Still stability seems much improved. Would you like me to post backtraces for each kmail crash (on this bug or in separate bugs?) or...?

backtrace from the last of 5 (similar) crashes with kdemail-3.5.4-r2

It just crashed for the fifth time now (fortunately, however, now all the backtraces look similar) where my previous comment was posted after the first time. The attached backtrace is after kdelibs and kmail have been compiled with use+=debug and {C,CXX}FLAGS+=-ggdb. I do have four more of those..
Comment 10 Bo Ørsted Andresen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-20 20:12:47 UTC
s/kdemail/kmail/

I probably should have mentioned that I am running kmail in kontact. Maybe I should try not to.
Comment 11 Bo Ørsted Andresen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-01-31 14:12:09 UTC
The backtrace when this crashes (not very frequent anymore) has changed and this bug doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Probably should be an upstream bug anyhow. Resolving as such.
