The insight package includes libraries that apparently need the '-fwritable-strings' compiler flag, which was removed from gcc 4.0 . Manually removing instances of '-fwritable-strings' does allow the compilation to complete, but I have no idea about the stability of the resulting binaries. I encountered this on an AMD64, but it should affect all platforms using gcc 4.0 or greater.
