Hi, I have a laptop running a Gentoo Linux distro. It has a S3 Savage IX/MV card that worked very well until I emerge this XFree version. Indeed I used to have some very smooth gradients in 24bbp mode (this is quite logical). But now all I get is some really crap gradients. For instance a gradient looks like big rectangles that you put together. It just looks like if the card was running in 16bpp or lower mode. I think you picture what it looks like. I did not change anything in my XF86Config file and the XFree logs tell me that the X server *does* run in 24bpp mode (truecolor). By the way I used the savage driver which is the good one. Any idea ? Thanks a lot :-)
Any samples ?
Sure, here's an attachment having a screenshot + the XFree log and configuration file. Thanks.
Created attachment 7637 [details] Screenshot + Xfree log + XF86Config Here's all I can give you ...
Can you try a different version of the driver from: http://www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html Version in ebuild is 1.1.25t.
The ebuild has the latest version ... What strikes me is that the problem appeared when I emerged Xfree-4.2.1-r2 ...
Actually 1.1.26t is the latest version ...
I'll check that asap then :-) Maybe I'll have to wait this week-end but I'll keep you informated. Cheers.
Hi, It works indeed better with the driver from probo.com :-)
Ok, updated to 1.1.27t.
