1. We've just mentioned in the 2006.1 draft that users could use firefox to browse an html handbook on the CD. Could an icon that links to it be added on the desktop? 2. The GLI FAQ icon on the desktop links to http://www.g.o/... Looks a bit daft for a CD that's supposed to work networkless. Could the FAQ be copied on the CD?
Well, this requires changes in catalyst, so it could get done in time for the release. We'll do this next release, though.
s/could/couldn't/ :)
Andrew, is the FAQ necessary to be linked still?
As opposed to just copying it to the CD? I don't recall there ever being a good reason for linking instead of copying.
Actually, I meant is it necessary, at all. I've been just copying the .desktop created by the gli ebuild itself. I was wondering if it is still necessary. If it is, then I need to generate a new .desktop file, rather than using the old one, since I'll have to point it to a new location.
OK. I've added this into SVN for catalyst. Once I make a new catalyst release with this updated, I'll reassign this to release for 2007.0's release. In case you're wondering, I've dropped the FAQ icon, since it was only really there to tell people how to perform an update of the installer, and I've added the link to the local Handbook. The link will not work if someone uses "docache" and unmounts the CD, but I'm not really that concerned with that particular corner case, since other things don't work (like networkless on the installer that expects the portage snapshot is at /mnt/cdrom/snapshots)...
Fixed in 2.0.2
