When you start GnuCash from terminal, response is: gnucash: error while loading shared libraries: libgal.so.20: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory The only libgal.so files on system are: /usr/lib/libgal.so /usr/lib/libgal.so.21 /usr/lib/libgal.so.21.1.0 The link from libgal.so was: /usr/lib/libgal.so -> libgal.so.21.1.0 So I made a symlink of /usr/lib/libgal.so.20 to libgal.so.21 and also tested symlink to libgal.so.21.1.0. Both worked and GnuCash would start. But when tried to use the Tools/Price Editor it wouldn't update Stock Quotes. (I already had this setup and working). I get a bunch of stuff in the terminal: Short list: ************** Warning: PrintAmountInternal: max_decimal_places too small ........ guppi-text-state.c:guppi_text_state_get_block:338: text changed size 102.406 14.614 ........ guppi-layout-engine.c:schedule_layout:508: layout scheduled guppi-layout-engine.c:do_layout:413: bounds: 0:432 0:266.991 guppi-layout-engine.c:do_layout:414: collapsed system: rows=4 cols=4 ........ (handling-request ("yahoo" "SSFFX" "POVSX" "PCOAX" "UTX" "MO" "MCEL" "MRK" "HAL" "EK")) **************************** So, not sure what the problem is with. Using gnucash-1.6.8 gal-0.22 gtkhtml-1.0.4 (listed this cause some web references refer to libgal and this. I know that GnuCash is heavily perl dependent so listing some of them. Using perl-5.8.0.r9 libperl-5.8.0 libwww-perl-5.64-r1 gtk-perl-0.7008-r7 Haven't tried remerging anything else yet. Nothing but the symlink, which seems to let GnuCash limp along.
Have you tried rebuilding Gnucash against the new libgal library (just remerge it)?
I have been updating and remerging some hopefully relevent packages. There doesn't seem to be a libgal package available. I did remerge the Gal-0.22 though just now after removing the symlink. Still NOGO. Gnucash won't start without the symlink, either I made works.
I made one mistake. Still have the problem, but the response from Tool/Price Editor should only contain the last line. The rest is there when first start GnuCash with the symlink.
Remerging nothing worked, until remerge GnuCash. Now symlink shows: /usr/lib/libgal.so -> libgal.so.21.1.0 Should leave the bug open to change ebuild on gal?? Not sure what to do about this! But it is working again.
Guess I jumped the gun on this one. It works fine and just used it. BUT, Tools/Price Editor doesn't work. It still works the same, can retrieve the quotes. I did: update-finance-quote and says up to date: update-finance-quote CPAN: Storable loaded ok Going to read /root/.cpan/Metadata Database was generated on Tue, 21 Jan 2003 21:48:57 GMT Date::Manip is up to date. Finance::Quote is up to date. So something is still broken.
Man I wish you could go back an edit these. I meant to say: CAN'T retrieve the quotes. Sorry.
nah the libgal problem is known, not sure what i should do about it. Probably slot them all or something to have them stay around (not sure thats a real good solution). the quotes depends on something else (certain perl lib or something), there used to be another bug about it. I think they said they would fix it. Do a search :)
Yes, but the dependancies were already met, cause had it working before. Use it all the time. I will check though if some new dependancy crept up or what. I updated everything I could think of for GnuCash and Finance::Quotes, but will look into it further. There is a perl test script I know about to test if Finance::Quotes works alone or not. I will try that after I get done with work.
there's a new ebuild in #14438
New ebuild of what? I just did a rysnc after receiving this and emerge -up world only had a new gentoolkit and baselayout. ??
look at the bugno, he didnt say it was in portage yet.
the gal thing is known, the quote problem should not ne our concern.
All I know is it worked before and GnuCash has not been updated. And there are no bugs reported for GnuCash or Finance::Quotes as of this year and I just looked.
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7186
That points to a problem with finance::quotes "It will still complain that the finance::quote modules are not installed.." This isn't complaining about it not being installed, and the fix on that one was to install libwww-perl. This though, GnuCash worked before and all the dependencies were met, like libwww-perl. And it isn't complaining about missing modules. It thinks it is working, but can't actually retrieve the quotes. Oh, wait, I think you are trying to say that there was a bug report and it was fixed on someone else's end. Correct. I think that was kind of Gentoo specific and they fixed it, based on the fact that Gentoo and maybe some other distro's weren't installing libwww-perl by default. So the problem came up, they made it check. I had discussions with them. I 'meant' to say, THEY are not reporting any bugs at those places, about not being able to get quotes, when it just worked fine earlier. I am not saying that it isn't something they can fix, but it might still be something Gentoo is doing different than some other distro's that make the problem come up. It would be nice if this one (if it is that) would point to something as easily as the OTHER bug did. I will see if I can put some older modules in and if it starts working, then can maybe pinpoint something better.
