on several ebuilds, all compiles go well, but during the "install" stage (after compile and before merge),
the following error:

make[1]:MKINSTALLDIRS@: Command not found
make[1]: *** [install-data-yes] Error 127

it seems to always happen in the 'po' directory in work dir.

workaround and (little) details in

has happened so far in:
hunspell
cryptsetup

reproducing the bug: unknown?
