current stable sci-libs/lapack-atlas-3.6.0 fails to build with GCC 4.1. if possible, please stabilize >=sci-libs/lapack-atlas-3.7.11 or backport the eclass fix from ~arch so we can work on getting GCC 4.1 into stable. thanks ;d
We could probably stabilize the atlas 3.7 stuff, it's been running quite stable on multiple machines here. Anybody else got input?
I'd be absolutely for it. Upstream recommends the development versions anyway due to much better support of newer CPUs; 3.6.0 is fairly old by now. 3.7.12 just came out a few weeks ago with fairly significant changes to the build system; hence, 3.7.11 is probably a good candidate for the new stable branch. Feel free to CC the arches when you're ready for us to do our foo. At minimu, amd64, ppc, and x86 will need this either currently (ppc) or in the very near future.
Mentioned this on another bug, but it deserves to be here too -- we need to fix the unmasked *-atlas ebuilds to use blas-config and lapack-config instead of the old eselect modules before stabling.
(In reply to comment #4) > Mentioned this on another bug, but it deserves to be here too -- we need to fix > the unmasked *-atlas ebuilds to use blas-config and lapack-config instead of > the old eselect modules before stabling. This is done.
Any progress on this? We need this ASAP for bug #140707. If no response is made before Sept 1st we'll be taking it upon ourselves to CC archs and get this bug resolved. thanks :)
While testing for bug 141446 I also tested this one on amd64. emerges fine :) emerge --info Portage 2.1-r2 (default-linux/amd64/2006.1/desktop, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.4-r3, 2.6.17-suspend2-r4Dudebox-Edition x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.17-suspend2-r4Dudebox-Edition x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.12.4 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] app-admin/eselect-compiler: [Not Present] dev-lang/python: 2.4.3-r1 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: 2.3 dev-util/confcache: [Not Present] sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.13-r3 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=k8 -msse3 -Os -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/gconf /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-march=k8 -msse3 -Os -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache collision-protect distlocks metadata-transfer multilib-strict parallel-fetch sandbox sfperms strict test userfetch userpriv usersandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.wh2.tu-dresden.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://linux.rz.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/gentoo-mirror/ ftp:///ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude='/distfiles' --exclude='/local' --exclude='/packages'" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://server/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 X alsa arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cairo cdr cli crypt cups dbus dlloader dri dvd dvdr eds emboss encode esd fam firefox fortran gdbm gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal isdnlog jpeg kde kdeenablefinal kdehiddenvisibility ldap libg++ mad mikmod mp3 mpeg ncurses nls nptl nptlonly ogg opengl oss pam pcre pdflib perl png ppds pppd python qt3 qt4 quicktime readline reflection sdl session spell spl ssl tcpd test truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev unicode vorbis xml xorg xv zlib elibc_glibc input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse kernel_linux userland_GNU video_cards_radeon" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LINGUAS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
I don't see any objections from maintainers and the blas-config/lapack-config thing is done. CCing arches here.

The compile seemed to work on ppc, but I'm having much fun trying to get the tests to compile. Even when I override all the bogus compiler opts, it wants to link against a static lapack_<PLATFORM>.a which does not exist.
finally got the tests to run: cd LAPACK cp /usr/lib/lapack/atlas/liblapack.a lapack_PPC.a cd TESTING make PLAT=_PPC FORTRAN="libtool --mode=compile --tag=F77 g77" OPTS="-O2 -pipe" LOADER="libtool --mode=link --tag=F77 g77" LOADOPTS="" BLASLIB="-lblas -lcblas" Everything looks ok, so stable on ppc.
fixing the prestripped files would be nice (hint hint science herd)..but its stable on x86
we're done here
