Description Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-22 14:48:53 UTC
current stable sci-libs/lapack-atlas-3.6.0 fails to build with GCC 4.1. if possible, please stabilize >=sci-libs/lapack-atlas-3.7.11 or backport the eclass fix from ~arch so we can work on getting GCC 4.1 into stable.

thanks ;d
Comment 1 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-05 13:16:08 UTC
We could probably stabilize the atlas 3.7 stuff, it's been running quite stable on multiple machines here. Anybody else got input?
Comment 2 Markus Dittrich (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-05 14:27:43 UTC
I'd be absolutely for it. Upstream recommends the development
versions anyway due to much better support of newer CPUs; 3.6.0
is fairly old by now. 3.7.12 just came out a few weeks ago with fairly
significant changes to the build system; hence, 3.7.11 is probably
a good candidate for the new stable branch.

Feel free to CC the arches when you're ready for us to do our foo. At minimu, amd64, ppc, and x86 will need this either currently (ppc) or in the very near future.
Comment 4 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-08 16:10:53 UTC
Mentioned this on another bug, but it deserves to be here too -- we need to fix the unmasked *-atlas ebuilds to use blas-config and lapack-config instead of the old eselect modules before stabling.

This is done.
Comment 6 Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-27 19:26:40 UTC
Any progress on this? We need this ASAP for bug #140707. If no response is made before Sept 1st we'll be taking it upon ourselves to CC archs and get this bug resolved.

thanks :)

While testing for bug 141446 I also tested this one on amd64. emerges fine :)

I don't see any objections from maintainers and the blas-config/lapack-config thing is done. CCing arches here.

Comment 11 Wormo (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-04 13:39:49 UTC
The compile seemed to work on ppc, but I'm having much fun trying to get the tests to compile.
Even when I override all the bogus compiler opts, it wants to link against a static lapack_<PLATFORM>.a which does not exist.
Comment 12 Wormo (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-04 15:58:18 UTC
finally got the tests to run:
cd LAPACK
cp /usr/lib/lapack/atlas/liblapack.a lapack_PPC.a
cd TESTING
make PLAT=_PPC FORTRAN="libtool --mode=compile --tag=F77 g77" OPTS="-O2 -pipe" LOADER="libtool --mode=link --tag=F77 g77" LOADOPTS="" BLASLIB="-lblas -lcblas"

Everything looks ok, so stable on ppc.
Comment 13 Joshua Jackson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-07 21:10:59 UTC
fixing the prestripped files would be nice (hint hint science herd)..but its stable on x86
Comment 14 Simon Stelling (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-12 04:02:52 UTC
we're done here
