this is the real error: /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.1/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lalut
I suspect this of being a problem with the old openal/freealut ebuilds. Builds fine for me with the latest stable. Reopen if it's still a problem.
