When I start gnome, I always get a dialog that the "gnome settings demon" failed to start and another dialog telling me the the mixer-applet is bonkers. I dont have the actual texts available at the moment, will provide them later. After employing my awesome detective skills (no not realy...) I found the to be caused by gstreamer acting up. I found that the problem can be replicated by running 'gst-inspect-0.10'.
