Description Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-16 19:38:32 UTC
Current stable version on x86 (4.2) fails to build with GCC-4.1 (bug #118858). Please stabilize =app-arch/rpm-4.2-r2 so we can get to work on getting GCC 4.1 into stable. -r2 should be the same as -r0, just with the gcc patch and some DEPENDS fixes.

thanks. ;d

1) emerges fine so far
2) passes collision test
3) does not pass test

test 5 of 11

error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm
error: package hello is not installed

QA Notice: the following files contain runtime text relocations
Text relocations force the dynamic linker to perform extra
work at startup, waste system resources, and may pose a security
risk. On some architectures, the code may not even function
 properly, if at all.
 For more information, see http://hardened.gentoo.org/pic-fix-guide.xml
Please include this file in your report:
 /var/tmp/portage/rpm-4.2-r2/temp/scanelf-textrel.log
"TEXTREL usr/lib/libbeecrypt.so.2.2.0"
"TEXTREL usr/lib/librpmio-4.2.so"

QA Notice: the following files contain executable stacks
Files with executable stacks will not work properly (or at all!)
on some architectures/operating systems. A bug should be filed
at http://bugs.gentoo.org/ to make sure the file is fixed.
 For more information, see http://hardened.gentoo.org/gnu-stack.xml
Please include this file in your report:
 /var/tmp/portage/rpm-4.2-r2/temp/scanelf-execstack.log

Comment 3 Joshua Jackson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-19 14:30:30 UTC
stable on x86, as it works and 4.1.1 stable fixes are the winner! ^.^;;
Comment 4 Joshua Jackson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-09 08:51:55 UTC
reopening as I didn't consider other archs...I wasn't thoughtful
Comment 5 Brent Baude (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-09 14:01:11 UTC
marked stable on ppc64; however, we dont have a good working 4.1.1 yet.
Comment 6 Jason Wever (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-10 20:08:55 UTC
Since some arches stablized 4.2.1 for previous rounds, did this patch get added into the newer ebuilds?
Comment 7 Markus Rothe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-11 00:09:30 UTC
removing ppc64 from CC (comment #5)
Comment 8 Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-11 19:32:53 UTC
sorry, this was meant for x86 only.

but, while i have your attention ;) no, now that i've looked into it, it doesn't look like rpm-4.2.1 has this fix. it was in 4.2-r[12] and was backported from 4.4.1.

if your arch has no interest in GCC 4.1 and find all your rpm-y needs fulfilled, you can ignore this.

i've removed arches that don't have GCC 4.1 in testing or have requested to be omitted (alpha,arm,ia64,sparc)

amd64 already has 4.2-r2 stable.

rpm-4.2.1-gcc41.patch

this patch should allow rpm-4.2.1 to build with GCC-4.1.1.

the alternative is to stablize 4.4.6. that's a pretty big leap, and introduces sqlite support. there was a GCC patch for rpm-4.4.1 at one time but it seems to gone missing. i could probably dig it up if people want.

rpm-4.2.1-pic.patch

this patch from 4.2 is also absent from 4.2.1.
Comment 11 Joshua Kinard gentoo-dev 2006-09-03 13:31:25 UTC
Marked 4.4.6 stable on mips.
Comment 12 Tobias Scherbaum (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-01 12:38:33 UTC
hppa stable, ppc already was stable
Comment 13 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2006-10-15 20:10:42 UTC
was done a while ago
