Hello before this ebuild was stable I installed the vmware-tools with the help of this guide : http://www.gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO:_Gentoo_and_VMware_Workstation_5.5.1 This helped to bypass this message : "The kernel defined by this directory of header files does not have the same address space size as your running kernel." (with this patch : vmware-tools-any-update1.tar.gz) I removed my by-hand made installation and did run : emerge vmware-workstation-tools and /opt/vmware/tools/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl that give me the same message ! But this same bug exist in this stable package !!! Could you correct this package by inserting this patch ? Regards my emerge --info : gentoo-vm-std ~ # emerge --info Portage 2.1-r1 (default-linux/x86/2006.0, gcc-3.4.6, glibc-2.3.6-r4, 2.6.16-gentoo-r12 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.16-gentoo-r12 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.15 app-admin/eselect-compiler: [Not Present] dev-lang/python: 2.4.3-r1 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: [Not Present] dev-util/confcache: [Not Present] sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.13-r3 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=i686 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/gconf /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-march=i686 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks metadata-transfer sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://mir1.ovh.net/gentoo-distfiles/ http://pandemonium.tiscali.de/pub/gentoo/ http://mirrors.sec.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/gentoo/" LANG="fr_FR@euro" LC_ALL="fr_FR@euro" LINGUAS="fr fr_FR" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude='/distfiles' --exclude='/local' --exclude='/packages'" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 apache2 apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cli crypt cups dlloader dri eds emboss encode esd foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gpm gstreamer gtk2 imlib isdnlog jpeg ldap libg++ libwww mad memlimit mikmod motif mp3 mpeg mysql ncurses nls nptl oci8-instant-client ogg opengl oss pam pcre pdflib perl png pppd python qt3 qt4 quicktime readline reflection sdl session spl ssl tcpd threads truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev vhosts vorbis xml xmms xorg xv zlib elibc_glibc input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse input_devices_evdev kernel_linux linguas_fr linguas_fr_FR userland_GNU" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LDFLAGS, MAKEOPTS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY

please note this bug report is about vmware-workstation-tools and not vmware-workstation. the mentioned bug is still present in app-emulation/vmware-workstation-tools-5.5.1 and will prevent you from using the vmware tools inside a gentoo guest system (not host system). solution: http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=405273
