Description Victor Nawothnig 2006-06-23 12:47:27 UTC
First I had this issue:

hal9000 ~ # emerge -av smbfs

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "smbfs" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- net-fs/smbfs-1.4.5 (masked by: missing keyword)

which looked weird to me, so I had to put =net-fs/smbfs ~* into package.keywords to unmask it.

But now I have this blocker:
hal9000 ~ # emerge -av smbfs

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[blocks B ] sys-libs/glibc (is blocking dev-libs/libiconv-1.9.2-r3)
[ebuild N ] dev-libs/libiconv-1.9.2-r3 USE="-build" 3,828 kB
[ebuild N ] sys-devel/pmake-1.98 282 kB
[ebuild N ] virtual/pmake-0 0 kB
[ebuild N ] net-fs/smbfs-1.4.5 134 kB

And since the glibc should (well, *must*) not be removed, I thought this would be worth reporting.

I also know now, that I can use samba with smbfs included into kernel, but the
package is available in portage, and software in the portage is available to be used. : )

This is NOT keyworded for x86 at all, it's a *BSD-only package.

(Sorry about the dup bug)

Why is it available in the portage if its only for *BSD?

(So I've got to take the kernel variant I suppose..)

> Why is it available in the portage if its only for *BSD?

So that Gentoo/BSD users could use it? :=)
