Description Vadim 2006-06-16 16:24:19 UTC
acroread 7.0.5-r2 takes 40 seconds to start on my P4 3GHz 1.5GB RAM fast SATA drive machine. Disk activity is noticeble during startup. After that (I suppose files get cached) it starts in a seconds.

I did all the magic with deleting .adobe directory and mentioned earlier font cache in it. Didn't help. Also as I see in /usr/bin/acroread font cache deletion magic is now built-in.

I strace-d acroread startup and see a lot of calls like:
..
stat64("/usr/share/fonts/corefonts/timesbi.ttf", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=238612, ...}) = 0
..
for all the fonts.

I don't think I have too many fonts installed. And why do I notice no difference in acroread startup 1st and 2nd time on Ubuntu (with zillion of fonts)?
