Description Mark Dominik Bürkle 2006-06-13 15:00:26 UTC
trying to get radeon 7000/VE (rv100 qy) running with two nearly same displays (one digital, one analog connection), I tried a lot of things.

One thing I stumbled upon were sudden crashes (pc did not react any more, no Zap, no SwitchVT, no SysRQ, no PING) which happened when running with

 - one screen / device section
 - two monitors (dvi + vga) attached
 - with radeon-device section containing
    mergedFB "off"
    CRT2Position "RightOf"
    MergedXinerama "off"
it worked with
    Option "MonitorLayout" "TMDS, NONE"
and it crashed repeatedly with
    Option "MonitorLayout" "TMDS, CRT"

# epm -qa | grep -ie xorg
xorg-x11-7.1
xorg-server-1.1.0
xorg-docs-1.2
#

(my apologies for the modelines, cfg, extension modules etc. - the were left over from previous testing...)

# grep -vEe '^[[:space:]]*(#.*)?$' /etc/X11/xorg.conf
(cut, comment too long, see full attachment)

This looks like being related to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1559 but that bug has grown really long, too long...

BTW, in tests before those lockups: first I had a dual-screen setup with cloned views quite out-of-the-box, which did not satisfy me. In the following tests I had the impression that
 a) upon initialization of the first port, the CRTCs for both ports are initialized,
 b) at some later re-initialization(?) 0-values are written to crtc1 and
 c) the offset of one of the crtcs also changed
which ended up in both displays blanking (dpms-off)...
Unsure if I can reproduce this, not sure if I can invest any more time in investigating this, maybe try ati-bin-drivers or just get a better supported video card... :-/

File a new bug at https://bugs.freedesktop.org if you can't find a reasonable match (that bug you mention is probably not a good place to post this), then post the resulting URL here. Thanks!
Comment 4 Mark Dominik Bürkle 2006-10-20 14:27:23 UTC
tried this lately, but I'm not sure if I had the same config -- might be fixed by upstream, but I'll have to check again w/time permits.
