emerge xmltv gives the following error: bad makefile line: ' $(NOECHO) $(NOOP)' at Makefile.PL line 936. this error message appears in the middle of the output from emerge. The emerge continues and completes 'successfully': >>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache... >>> media-tv/xmltv-0.5.34 merged. however XMLTV has not been successfully installed on the computer. Evidence: # find / -name '*XMLTV*' -print should find XMLTV.pm but in fact it finds nothing. # find / -name '*xmltv*' -print the only thing that this finds outside the portage tree is /usr/share/doc/xmltv-0.5.34

(In reply to comment #1) > > *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 114933 *** > This may be a duplicate however: 1) version 0.5.34 is the only one marked as "stable" for amd64, yet it will not build on this machine 2) version 0.5.39 (the version of the duplicate) is the latest "testing" branch and it won't compile either 3) 114933 has been marked as a duplicate of 95166 which appears to have been around for about a year and does not contain any reference to the problem described by this bug! 4) 95166 relates to 0.5.43 which is masked for this platform. The net result is that we are unable to emerge ANY version of xmltv at the moment - when two months ago there was one that worked. I am rebuilding my machine from scratch and can't proceed any further!
