Description Asfand Yar Qazi 2006-06-01 06:54:11 UTC
The foo2zjs web page claims (quote:)
*** DON'T USE the foo2zjs package from Ubuntu, SUSE, Mandrake, Debian, RedHat, or Gentoo!
*** Download it here and follow the directions below.

i.e. It really needs to be updated. I don't feel like spewing files all over my system without portage knowing about it, and the make system in the package doesn't seem to handle installing into a different prefix for sandboxing reasons, so please update the ebuild soon.

Also, when emerging foo2zjs as supplied by portage, the necessary file could not be found at any of the download sites. Eventually gentoo.mirrored.ca freezes at gentoo.mirrored.ca

Thanks

I update it frequently - the problem is it does not get stabilized frequently.

x86 team: please stabilize foo2zjs-20060501-r1

or maybe it makes even sense for this one to remove the stable keyword and have it unstable forever since the stable one is frequently outdated and this is discouraged by upstream?

That might make more sense. For example, the stable version (which isn't available on any sites, I might add, but I think that's already a known issue) doesn't include support for a very popular product, the HP Laserjet 2600n, while unstable seems to.

Or, perhaps versions should be moved to stable more often?

Does anything stable depend upon this? If not, then I agree. Just put it back to ~arch since it sounds like upstream doesn't like doing official releases :) If they slow down and start doing stable releases, then it would make more sense to go back to marking it stable.

I removed all the old releases, only leaving the latest ebuild in place .. ~arch of course.
