I'm trying to install Gentoo Linux on a PC i586 200 MHz machine with 128 MB RAM. I will get the Gentoo Linux splash screen and will begin to access the CD-ROM drive then I will receive this error message "isolinux: Disk error 80, AX = 42A2, drive 9F". The iso cd that I've downloaded and burned is "Gentoo-grp-i586-1.4rc2.iso". I hope this is enough info. Thanks, Larry
Try booting this CD on another system. This sounds suspiciously like a bad burn...
I was able to boot the burned CD on another computer. The computer was able to boot Gentoo just fine. This was a 686 Intel 450 MHz box.
System: Dell Precision 410, BIOS A14 (latest available) Pentium II 400 MHz SCSI _and_ IDE CD-ROM drives On initial boot, the install process halts at: "Uncompressing Linux... OK, booting the kernel." Total system freeze, no keyboard, etc. Hard power cycle needed. ISO images tried thus far (MD5 before _and_ after burn) in order: gentoo-grp-i686-1.4_rc2.iso gentoo-grp-i586-1.4_rc2.iso gentoo-basic-x86-1.4_rc2.iso
I have experienced the same problem: Uncompressing Linux... OK, booting the kernel. and then the system had frozen. Then I disabled the APIC mode in the BIOS and it fixed the problem... System : AMD Athlon 850 Mhz VIA KT333 chipset
I've tried Gentoo Version 1.2 and 1.1a. The results were the same. After the message "Linux booting........" It will make several attempts to read from the CD-ROM and then the isolinux will will failed with the follwoing message : "isolinux: Disk error 80, AX = 42A2, drive 9F". I am running AP5T R1.50 mainboard. Larry
I've also had the "Uncompressing Linux... OK, booting the kernel." followed by a full freeze on a IBM xSeries 305 (K343XEU) with the 1.4_rc3 cd. However, a 1.4_rc1 cd worked just fine! For hw-details, check out: http://www5.pc.ibm.com/no/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_K343XEU?OpenDocument
gcc opts in livecd kernel caused this on many boxes, removed from -rc4, please try and reopen if needed.
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux". I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers, this is the only reasonable way to do this.
