Yesterday I installed GNOME 2.14 and since I logged in again filenames are being displayed incorrectly. My locale encoding is ISO-8859-1, and the filenames are still displayed correctly in the command line interface (even within GNOME terminal) but the specific characters (like ç, á and ü) are substituted by boxes with a hollow interrogation. It happens with all filenames, in Nautilus and in the dialogs, including folders, but not with .desktop filenames. I guess it happens because the name Nautilus and the file dialogs display are not really the filename, but the text in "Name[pt_BR]=" (and .desktops are coded in UTF-8, not ISO). gedit displays the real filenames in the tabs and the titlebar, and in these places the .desktop files names are displayed incorrectly, just like the rest of the filenames. OK, gedit is displaying the filenames incorrectly, too; and is file-roller (names of files in archives). Additional information: 1. In KBabel there characters are still displayed correctly; and 2. I have just created a launcher called "ab
Additional information: 1. In KBabel there characters are still displayed correctly; and 2. I have just created a launcher called "abç" by right-clicking the desktop and choosing the appropriate option; the name in shown correctly in the GUI, but in the command-line it is listed as "abç.desktop", which I guess is "abç.desktop" coded in UTF-8 and read as if was written with ISO 8859-1 (which is my locale encoding).
