OK, bash-3.1_p16 has been in portage for a while now with no adverse effects. baselayout is kinda itching to get 1.12 marked stable, but we need bash-3.1 marked stable first. AFAWK, bash-3.1 works with baselayout-1.11, so there should be no trouble there. When you mark bash-3.1_p16 stable for your arch, please mark sys-libs/readline-5.1_p4 stable too as they kinda go hand in hand. Many thanks my friends :)
bash-3.1_p16 [-afs -bashlogger -build +nls] and readline-5.1_p4 seem to work fine on x86. I've just done a reboot with these packages installed, verified that emerge still does what it should and that the readline based interface of sci-mathematics/octave behaves as expected. I had just update to the bash-3.1_p16, but with ndiswrapper and wpa_supplicant was not able to get the wirless working, had a failure to power up the wireless card (RT2500) within the messagse (ndiswrapper (iw_set_tx_power:421): setting tx_power failed (C0010015)) So I have down graded back to bash-3.0-r12. If there is any advice ? Thanks Ian P.S. This is my first bug report, so if I have done anything wrong please say :) Portage 2.0.54 (default-linux/x86/2006.0, gcc-3.4.5, glibc-2.3.5-r3, 2.6.15-gentoo-r1 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.15-gentoo-r1 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.14 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2, 2.4.2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/eselect/compiler /etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.mirrorservice.org/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/ ftp://mirrors.blueyonder.co.uk/mirrors/gentoo" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X alsa apache2 apm arts audiofile avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 cdr cli crypt ctype cups curl dba dri dts eds emboss encode esd exif expat fam fastbuild ffmpeg foomaticdb force-cgi-redirect fortran ftp gd gdbm gif glut gmp gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal idn imagemagick imlib ipv6 isdnlog java jpeg junit kde lcms libg++ libwww mad memlimit mikmod mng motif mp3 mpeg mysql ncurses nls nptl ogg openal opengl oss pam pcre pdflib perl php png posix pppd python qt quicktime readline samba sdl session simplexml soap sockets spell spl ssl tcpd tiff tokenizer truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev usb vorbis win32codecs xml xml2 xmms xsl xv xvid zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, MAKEOPTS
