When I've tried to install Gentoo Linux 2006.0 on my AthlonXP noname PC (VIA82xx chipset, 1 GB RAM, nVidia GeForce2 MX400 video), LiveCD loading hangs on "Booting the system (68%)...". In Verbose mode I have following: ----- * Detected 1 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1900+ 1593MHz CPU WARNING: Autodetecting seem to hang, please check your computer's BIOS settings. * Not Loading APM BIOS suport ... [ ok ] ----- I've tried to load fail-safe BIOS defaults, but that didn't help. I have installed Gentoo on this box previously (2005 releases), and had no problems.
What command-line options did you use at boot? Any?
i have had the same problem, it was the nic smc 1211tx i interrupted the startscript right when it detects the cpu when i then inserted the module 8139too manually the system hangs maybe that helps
Marcus, that helps only for your exact problem. Without more information, I can't really help you. I would probably say that you should file your own bug, since it is unlikely the both of you have the same NIC.
