The attached makefile is updated from the current filefuncs makefile to respect CFLAGS and LDFLAGS as set by user.

you didnt say the patch was against filefuncs ... i thought it was against the gawk package itself

I'm not sure if reopening a two-year-old bug is the right thing to do here, but this was never fixed properly because there's a typo in the patch. It compiles using CLAGS instead of CFLAGS. I can fix this myself, and I'll be happy to, or you can fix this sooner. :)
