Description EliXiR 2006-03-26 10:34:06 UTC
Captive is compiled succesfully, but right before the installation process, the following message is displayed:

Comment 2 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-26 13:35:52 UTC
what is the commmand causing the sandbox violation?
I cannot reproduce this, maybe a bug but I would rather assume that your system is somehow broken, can you please post your emerge info?
Comment 3 EliXiR 2006-03-26 14:28:05 UTC
I don't know which command is causing the violation, but the content of the log file /var/log/sandbox/sandbox-sys-fs_-_captive-1.1.7-r1-10256.log is (as it is displayed) exactly:

chmod: /root/.gnome2_private

Comment 5 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-26 14:36:30 UTC
if you rm -R /root/.gnome2_private
what does happen then?
Comment 6 EliXiR 2006-03-26 14:59:37 UTC
I just removed the directory and the same messaage is still displayed at the end:

>>> Source compiled.
--------------------------- ACCESS VIOLATION SUMMARY --------------------------
LOG FILE = "/var/log/sandbox/sandbox-sys-fs_-_captive-1.1.7-r1-12695.log"

mkdir: /root/.gnome2_private
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But the directory doesn't exist enymore (even after this message is displayed).
Comment 7 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-26 15:17:32 UTC
gnome people: can you please assist me in that?
Seems to be some gconf weirdness:

>>> Source compiled.
---ACCESS VIOLATION SUMMARY----
chmod: /root/.gnome2_private
Comment 8 Lars Petersen 2006-03-28 01:25:12 UTC
Assuming that I suffer from the same bug (or misconfiguration or whatever), it is not limited to gnome. I have a similar thing with Qt/KDE on *one* of my boxes. The other, although mostly in sync with this one, compiled captive-1.1.7-r1 without a hitch.

Comment 9 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-04-01 11:02:26 UTC
I cannot see why this happens, why would captive want to write to a qt directory? It does not even use qt in any way.
lpetersen, do you have any idea what the difference between your two boxen could be?
Comment 10 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-04-01 11:42:33 UTC
If you attach the complete emerge log it will become more obvious where abouts the violation occurs (right now you have only shown the summary at the end)
Comment 11 Lars Petersen 2006-04-01 13:27:14 UTC
Sorry, I have not conserved that emerge.log... and meanwhile I have worked around the error by clearing out my /usr/qt/3/etc/settings/ directory. After that, captive compiled cleanly.

If you still want to look into where this error comes from, I can try and throw those lock files back in and hope that this makes the error reappear.

As to the difference between those two boxen, it's mainly hardware; one is a desktop, the other (that had the error) is a laptop. Otherwise, I mostly do sotware installations or upgrades on both in parallel. Strangely, the desktop (where captive never made any trouble) has a couple of rc files and corresponding lock files in its /usr/qt/3/etc/settings/ directory, among which also those that the captive build complained about.

How qt comes into play here, I don't know. Maybe the fact that I'm using the x11-themes/gtk-engines-qt for GTK apps is of any relevance?

In short: For me, the problem is gone now. If you are interested, I'll try and reproduce it, though. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the noise, anyway!
Comment 12 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-04-02 09:09:31 UTC
It is ok with me when no one cares :)

I hope this does not appear again. If anyone is interested in fixing this bug please provide more info so that I can actually do something

I refered to #128289 of which this is supposed to be a dupe.

clearly it is similar, but not the same.

firstly #128289 is marked resolved FIXED, this clearly isn't:

should really be fixed, see the ebuild. I addwrite everything there. If you can suggest a better fix, please tell me so. Maybe addwrite needs to be moved to global scope

also ntfs3g is preferred now.
