Description JG 2006-03-16 11:57:53 UTC
hi,

i'm during an installation of a fresh system, already with modular xorg-x11 7.0.

tightvnc-1.3_alpha7 fails to emerge with the following error:

net-misc/tightvnc-1.3_alpha7  USE="-java -server -tcpd" 0 kB

>>> Unpacking tightvnc-1.3dev7_unixsrc.tar.bz2 to /var/tmp/portage/tightvnc-1.3_alpha7/work
[...]
>>> Compiling source in /var/tmp/portage/tightvnc-1.3_alpha7/work/vnc_unixsrc ...
/usr/portage/net-misc/tightvnc/tightvnc-1.3_alpha7.ebuild: line 63: xmkmf: command not found

!!! ERROR: net-misc/tightvnc-1.3_alpha7 failed.
Call stack:
  ebuild.sh, line 1557:   Called dyn_compile
  ebuild.sh, line 966:   Called src_compile

!!! xmkmf failed

solution: emerge imake

afterwards one is presented with:
make depend
depending in ./libvncauth...
make[1]: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/tightvnc-1.3_alpha7/work/vnc_unixsrc/libvncauth'
gccmakedep  -- -I. -I../include  -I/usr/include    -Dlinux -D__amd64__ -D_POSIX_C_SOURCE=199309L     -D_POSIX_SOURCE -D_XOPEN_SOURCE                          -D_BSD_SOURCE -D_SVID_SOURCE                                 -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64                                              -DFUNCPROTO=15 -DNARROWPROTO      -- vncauth.c d3des.c

Call stack:
  ebuild.sh, line 1557:   Called dyn_compile
  ebuild.sh, line 966:   Called src_compile

!!! xmkmf failed

solution: emerge gccmakedep

next error:
/bin/sh: rman: command not found
make[2]: *** [vncviewer.1x.html] Error 127
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/tightvnc-1.3_alpha7/work/vnc_unixsrc/vncviewer'
make[1]: *** [all] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/tightvnc-1.3_alpha7/work/vnc_unixsrc'
make: *** [World] Error 2

=> emerge rman

to sum up:
at least imake, gccmakedep and rman are needed to compile latest tightvnc.

i looked at the ebuild and the packages are mentioned there, but they didn't get installed on two of my systems?

Because you are messing w/ virtuals! The person who put that stupid "advice" on Gentoo Wiki should be executed. :X
