If you prefer to have a mostly stable system but want to cherry pick some unstable packages, maintaning /etc/portage/package.keywords becomes a burden. It is quite easy to accidently wipe the entire file by typing "echo >" instead of "echo >>". Over the time the file suffers bitrotting, as some of your supposed cherries prove to be real cherries any move from unstable to stable. The script attach aims to be an example for a script maintaining package.keywords. Files not covered but suffering similiar problems are package.mask and package.unmask.
