Comment 1 Andreas Kotowicz 2006-03-13 23:02:05 UTC
you need hal 0.5.7 AND gnome-mount 0.4 installed in order for this to work
Comment 2 Sebastian Bergmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-13 23:06:31 UTC
I have hal 0.5.7 and gnome-mount 0.4 installed.
Comment 3 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-16 09:38:44 UTC
Is gnome-volume-manager running? (it is a daemon)
Comment 4 Sebastian Bergmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-16 10:31:32 UTC
Yes, it is:

Comment 5 Joe McCann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-16 11:11:02 UTC
The problem is its kind of broke atm. If you are on a new install, you won't already be in the plugdev group from last release, and won't have permission to automount. Cardoe should have a new hal in the tree sometime soon that address the issue and will work out of the box :)
Comment 6 Sebastian Bergmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-19 01:13:07 UTC
The new hal does not solve this for me.
Comment 7 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-19 10:45:43 UTC
Kill gnome-volume-manager, and then run:

# gnome-volume-manager -n

Then plug in a USB flash device and watch the output.
Comment 8 Alex Maclean 2006-03-19 12:07:17 UTC
I have the same issue. All that gives me is "gnome-mount 0.4".
Comment 9 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-19 13:59:07 UTC
Please elaborate. You mean all you get is:

# killall gnome-volume-manager
# gnome-volume-manager -n
gnome-mount 0.4

?
Comment 10 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-19 14:38:00 UTC
When I plug in my USB disk I used to get the following pop up.

Can not mount volume

You are not privledged to mount the volume 'USB MEMORY'.

And the following output from g-v-m...

cardoe@dlaptop ~ $ killall gnome-volume-manager
cardoe@dlaptop ~ $ gnome-volume-manager -n
gnome-mount 0.4

However it turned out I had a stale entry in /etc/fstab from fstab-sync (I had to compile hal-0.4.x for testing). Soon as I got rid of the entry everything worked fine.

Just an idea of something to check.
Comment 11 Sebastian Bergmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-19 22:37:33 UTC
Same here ("gnome-volume-manager -n" prints only "gnome-mount 0.4" upon attaching my USB device.

I have no stale fstab entry, though.

Exactly.

Somthing a little more useful.

solved for me using the portage's ebuild of hal-0.5.7
Comment 16 Nylan 2006-03-22 09:40:49 UTC
using portage's hal-0.5.7 ebuild and switching to gentoo-sources-2.6.16 solved my problems with gnome-mount-2.14.0 and disk mount applet.
Comment 17 Alex Maclean 2006-03-22 09:44:00 UTC
I had no /media directory (it somehow got deleted in the upgrade to 2.14..). Creating it solved my problem.
Comment 18 Sebastian Bergmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-22 23:45:37 UTC
I was missing the /media directory, too. Works fine now, closing.
