Description Alex Boag-Munroe 2006-03-07 06:29:38 UTC
Open Evolution
Go to Edit - Preferences
Click on the mail profile you want to edit and click Edit.
Try to switch to a different tab. Evolution crashes.

Output in the console:

adding hook target 'source'

(evolution:23322): e-canvas-background.c-CRITICAL **: ecb_style_set: assertion `ecb->priv->gc != NULL' failed

(evolution:23322): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_entry_set_text: assertion `text != NULL' failed

BBDB spinning up...

(evolution:23322): e-canvas-background.c-CRITICAL **: ecb_style_set: assertion `ecb->priv->gc != NULL' failed

However, all of this appears -before- the crash.

I experience exactly the same problem with evolution, excpet that it already crashes when i try to hit the 'preferences' menu-item:

(evolution-2.4:3390): e-canvas-background.c-CRITICAL **: ecb_style_set: assertion
`ecb->priv->gc != NULL' failed

(evolution-2.4:3390): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_entry_set_text: assertion `text !=

X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3

I've tried to reemerge and to 'emerge --emptytree evolution' without success.
It doesn't happen on my notebook (Asus M6762NeWP) which uses nearly the same useflags (--info below).

ok, the 'bug' has vanished now, after emerging sys-libs/glibc-2.4 and rebuilding xorg-x11. Evolution works fine now.

my actual 'emerge --info':

Always tricky on a not so supported system... (glibc 2.4 gcc 4.1 ~x86) but since more people with less bleeding edge systems have exact same problem as in comment #1, crash on hitting Edit - Preferences:

Think i'll play a bit with gnome-spell... (Wondering why Fedora development does have evolution 2.6.0 and lags gnome-spell to 1.0.5 where gentoo has 1.0.6 under x86 keyword)

Can yall update to the latest enchant-1.2.3 in portage and see if that fixes this problem?
Comment 9 Ronald Hummelink 2006-03-28 11:07:23 UTC
upgraded to enchant 1.2.3
(for me) downgraded back to the in portage gnome-spell 1.0.6

Results: no crash on "Edit Preferences"
no crash on the spellcheck replace action described by foser in bug 127142

I am and was already running 1.2.3 and 1.0.6 respectively.

Still crashes when I switch tabs in edit preferences when changing a profile.
Comment 11 John N. Laliberte (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-14 12:52:02 UTC
please upgrade to evolution-2.6 ( just marked stable with GNOME 2.14 ) and re-open the bug if you can still reproduce it.
