ebox (ebox-platform.com) is an integrated samba/ldap/PDC solution especially useful for SOHO as it features a webbased frontend. suggested category: app-admin At the moment ebox uses gconf (and even worse: gnome2-gconf) which creates a rather ugly gtk2-dependecy, but the devs are thinking about switching back to XML::Simple. Additionally ebox will need these cpan-modules added to the tree: perl-gcpan/Sys-CpuLoad perl-gcpan/Apache-Singleton perl-gcpan/Sys-CPU For the moment you can autogenerate them with gcpan. Everybody who's interested in adepting ebox (yes, it does not run out of the box, yet) feel free to join #ebox on freenode.

i was talking with ebox devs this morning. They will not invert time or resouces in write the ebox api to xml::simple. So we will need to hack the gconf* ebuilds or write ourself the new api (if we made the new api they will use it).
Hm, looks like it would be better for gnome devs to deal with this bug (and the libebox one). Just one thing I thought to mention. Portage can deal with CPAN packages "directly" from what I remember reading on -dev (quite) some time ago. However, as these modules are dependencies they may need ebuilds (I don't remember the exact requirements, - whether all the dependencies or some of them has to have ebuilds and which one can be pulled directly from CPAN). You can try looking here: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/perl/ This is a page for Perl project in Gentoo, it may have some relevant info.. George
Latest version is 0.9.3 and I heard Ubuntu wants to switch to ebox for their server configurations. Does this integrate into Gentoo at all?
