Sorry if this is a dupe; I assure you I did search quite extensively before filing. When I emerge sync these days, "Updating portage cache" takes a rediculous amount of time, like eg. 10-15 min on a dual athlon with a gig of RAM and a fast disk. Other portage operations, like emerge search, and pretty much anything with equery are also quite slow. Though I do them less frequently, so if the cache update could be improved that's the biggest thing.
