If you first run vmware-config.pl and it fails for some reason (there was something wrong with my kernel sources) the vmware daemon was stopped and the modules removed. If you try to run the vmware-config.pl script again, you get the error: Making sure services for VMware Workstation are stopped. * ERROR: "vmware" has not yet been started. Unable to stop services for VMware Workstation Execution aborted. You can't start 'vmware' with /etc/init.d/vmware start because you then get the error: * VMware Workstation is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured * for the running kernel. To (re-)configure it, invoke the * following command: /opt/vmware/workstation/bin/vmware-config.pl. * VMware is not properly configured! See above. [ !! ]
