Description Pieter De Wit 2005-12-18 22:24:36 UTC
Hey Guys,

Please can we enable iptables as a default in the genkernel config. We look after a couple of servers and everytime we upgrade (and it doesn't keep the config) we have to redo the kernel with IPTABLES.

Thanks,

Pieter

No, why should we force iptables on every user of genkernel? Save your default config somewhere and set DEFAULT_KERNEL_CONFIG accordingly in /etc/genkernel.conf.

uhm - security ?

It's not like they have much of a choice - either they have iptables - or not - in the past they used to have iptables or ipchains - small time, but still, they choice was there. Even a --with-iptables in the genkernel line would be nice.

Of course they have choice - not using firewall, which is what tons of desktops on LANs behind a dedicated router/firewall do every day.
