some reason the comman emerege --synce fails at 90% portage cache update

Don't flood us with so much information next time, we might easily get overwhelmed! :P

Reopen with portage version and some error messages...

sorry this wasnt included before, after trying again i got the error "Updating Portage cache: 88%!!! Cannot resolve a virtual package name to an ebuild 
!!! This is a bug, please report it 
virtual/x11-6.8"
a slight guess is its a problem with xorg 
any ideas how to get past it

You need to update portage.  Then run `emerge --metadata` and it should not fail.
