Description Chris White (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-24 12:08:57 UTC
Quick query but, I think it would be a good idea to have a virtual/speech
virtual for the speech synthesizers we carry in portage, this includes (from
what I can tell):

eflite
epos
festival
flite
speechd

At the very least, if nothing else, we could at least use a virtual/festival, as
I see various text->speech programs utilizing it (in particular, I know that the
kde speech daemon uses it for their accessibility programs). Let me know what
you think.

As I understand virtuals, if we set up virtual/speech, it would mean that any
package that provides this virtual would have to be a drop-in replacement for
any other package that provides it.

If anyone else in accessibility knows differently, please correct me. I don't
believe the speech synthesizers we have are compatible that way, so I do not
think a virtual would work for them.

Decided it wasn't a good idea afterall given the circumstances of the packages
being able to exist together, INVALID.
