The people in the Netherlands need ADSL via PPTP on the LiveCD to be able to install Gentoo. Could you make sure that the files from net-dialup/kpnadsl4linux and all dependencies are on the LiveCD.
Adding drobbins to the cc-list, because he is working on the new livecd profiles. Want to make sure he sees this one. http://cvs.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/gentoo-src/livecd-ng/profiles/gentoo- basic
OK, all livecds after 20021221 will have this support. I have added kpnadsl4linux to my build scripts so they will be automatically included from now on. Closing this bug; thank you for the bug report :)

Hi Daniel, I have tested the 2002122300 LiveCD. There are configuration-scripts in the ebuild and the emerge isn't on this CD, so I'm not able to test if the scripts work fine, should these configuration-script be separated or do I have to wait until emerge is on the LiveCD? Please don't close this bug until I confirmed it's working.
OK, sorry about closing the bug prematurely. I added the full installs of those packages, so you should have everything you need. If you don't, then there is a problem with those packages (which could be possible.) Emerge is not going to be on the liveCD, since it is a runtime rather than development system. Best Regards, Daniel
Some configuration is done in the ebuild in pkg_config(). The ebuild tells the user (via einfo) to run ebuild /var/db/pkg/net-dialup/kpnadsl4linux-1.10/kpnadsl4linux-1.10.ebuild config. This way pkg_config gets executed. It is needed because password and user for the connection are needed. Emerge is _not_ needed as long as there is some way to execute the stuff in pkg_config().
I'm sorry for not being clear. I mean that the configuration-scripts are in the ebuild and therefor not on the LiveCD. To make it more userfriendly the scripts need to be on the LiveCD (just like the PPPoE-scripts). Is it conform Gentoo-policy that configuration gets done by the ebuild? Is it necessary that the ebuild installs additional files that contains the scripts?
> Is it conform Gentoo-policy that configuration gets done by the ebuild? Is it > necessary that the ebuild installs additional files that contains the scripts? It's not really the ebuild that's configuring, it's just stored in the ebuild. The user has to launch the script so the ebuild just performs pkg_config() as if it were an ordinary script. You can check bug 10444 to see how the ebuild looks. You'll see that all is needed to create an exterior script is to add a #!/bin/bash line at the top.
Daniel, here in my country almost all Broadband ISP use PPPoE, the live cd has support in it ?
OK, I see what's going on. There is a complicated configuration script in pkg_config(). This is really less than ideal. This script should be moved to an external script which can be included on the livecd. I can't include the ebuild and Portage (and python, and...) on the livecd. I'm assigning this to Hannes to resolve; it can be assigned back to me when there is a cleaner kpnadsl4linux ebuild for me to put on the livecd.
As I stated before, it's no big deal. I've put everything that was in pkg_config() in a seperate file and only had to add #!/bin/bash and some comments at the top of the script. I've added it to a tarball at my ISP's webspace http://home.planet.nl/~mcdon001/kpnadsl4linux-1.10-r1-livecd.tar.gz. That also has all the files in it to compile the whole package. I'll add the script as an attachment here too.
Created attachment 6898 [details] External pkg_config() like script. Here it is. Hope it's possible to include it now.
committed a seperate config script into portage.
Bit off topic: I couldn't find a great deal of information on this, what is to be done whean a config script has to be added to the livecd? Because Daniel said something about a script that adds all the necessary packages to the livecd, so this has to be done manually or so?
It's been more than a week now. Is it currently on the livecd's, or not? The status is still new...
I have just tested the 2003011300 LiveCD, I couldn't find the kpnadsl4linux-files. Is this correct?
I saw that another ebuild already contains /usr/sbin/adsl, this one is included on the LiveCD. I guess /usr/sbin/adsl from the kpnadsl4linux-ebuild needs to be renamed or else it will conflict with the one already on the LiveCD. $ qpkg -l kpnadsl4linux net-dialup/kpnadsl4linux-1.10-r1 * CONTENTS: /etc /etc/init.d /etc/init.d/adsl /usr /usr/sbin /usr/sbin/adsl /usr/sbin/kpnadsl4linux-config /usr/share /usr/share/doc /usr/share/doc/kpnadsl4linux-1.10-r1 /usr/share/doc/kpnadsl4linux-1.10-r1/README.gz /usr/share/doc/kpnadsl4linux-1.10-r1/Changelog.gz /usr/share/doc/kpnadsl4linux-1.10-r1/INSTALL.gz /usr/share/doc/kpnadsl4linux-1.10-r1/COPYING.gz
Is it possible to find out where that /usr/sbin/adsl comes from? (Maybe /usr/sbin/adsl --help will give some information) I don't understand why none of the developers respond to any of the questions. It can't be that none of them have had time in the past 2 weeks to give a short reply, can it?
Just discovered I forgot to press the commit button for a comment I made recently. It basically said that I don't like the way people are handling this bug. It's been well over a month since Hannes Mehnert said he "committed a seperate config script into portage." But there doesn't seem to be a kpnadsl4linux package in the LiveCD iso's... Can anybody say why no one seems to be able to give some answers? (I sent a copy of the original message to Daniel Robbins at his gentoo email adress, it was a couple of days ago, but I'm still awaiting reply...)
We in Israel also use pptp connection :-) So to get this working I don't need any handy/dandy script, just make the CDLIVE with pppd/pptp support and lett me create the script to connect to my ISP ;-)
yay - the same as up there would be interesting for me living in austria ;) tom

Sorry for the lack of dev replies, the bugs getting assigned to release@ were not getting enough developer eyes on them.
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux". I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers, this is the only reasonable way to do this.
