Description Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-23 12:17:26 UTC
Being a binary package azureus-bin is against the java policy. It will be
removed from the tree after in favor dev-java/azureus when the from sources is
in the same condition in regards to keywords as azureus-bin is right now. To
start this process I ask the amd64 arch team to mark dev-java/azureus ~amd64.
Comment 1 Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-23 12:18:18 UTC
Forgot that net-p2p does not want to deal with azureus. Assigning myself.
Comment 2 Patrick McLean gentoo-dev 2005-11-23 13:55:58 UTC
Can't test this this on my amd64 system because dev-java/swt-3.2_pre1 won't
install (see bug #113395).

Won't compile on my amd64 box with sun-jdk-1.5.0.05, I am attaching the
compiler messages.
Comment 4 Luis Medinas (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-23 15:54:50 UTC
swt isn't a problem on amd64 but let's see if we can be able to build azureus on
amd64.

Try this patch.

Compiles and works fine with the patch.

Build fix committed, hopefully we will get this ~amd64 now. I am working on a
version bump because 2.3.0.6 was released two days ago. I think this is a
suitable target for us to make people move to the from sources version because I
don't plan to version bump the binary version any more.
Comment 9 Herbie Hopkins (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-24 16:21:38 UTC
I've fixed the library path in the startup script to match that of libswt (lib64
for us). Other than that it works well for me too, marked ~amd64.
Comment 10 Jon 2005-11-26 09:36:47 UTC
I just installed 2.3.0.6 from the Gentoo-experimental SVN and it compiled
perfectly on my x86 machine with the lastest Java installed. It starts up fast.
I think it might be faster than the bin version that I have been using. :D It
can Download the Live DVD in from the forums so I am happy. Thanks!

It is probably faster because of a from sources built swt. Great to hear that it
is working for you. I just committed it to official tree and will unmask it
after I have downloaded a couple of torrents with it.
Comment 12 Kevin Bowling 2005-12-02 19:52:06 UTC
I can confirm AMD64 support. Starts much faster and feels over all more
responsive!
Comment 13 Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-03 01:37:45 UTC
Getting this stable will take a while because when I tried using this with
swt-3.1 on xfce4 on my stable laptop xfce4 went crazy. Also cairo will not be
stabilized before version 1.0 so that means we have to wait for a new swt
release and go stable with that. At least this gives plenty of time for people
to find bugs.
Comment 14 Dave Shanker 2006-01-31 18:46:11 UTC
As 2.3.0.6 contains alot of bug fixes and at least one security fix and dev-java/azureus doesn't look like it will be marked stable anytime soon, should we look at bumping dev-java/azureus-bin to 2.3.0.6?

Changelog http://azureus.sourceforge.net/changelog.php?version=2.3.0.6
Comment 15 Zac Slade 2006-02-22 04:10:28 UTC
What's the status here? 2.3.0.6 is ~amd64 and ~x86. It won't build with java 1.5 because ant doesn't work with it correctly. Is this bug going to remain open until swt 3.2 is released? This bug remains open and has had no activity in almost a month.....
Comment 16 Sumit Khanna 2006-03-10 23:38:34 UTC
I did try using the experimental ebuilds in the bugzilla for swt-3.2_pre5 and azuresu-2.4.0.0 on an ~amd64 machine and kept getting exceptions from Java not being about to find the libswt libraries even though the path (/usr/lib64) was correct.

I just noticed the bin package was bumped to 2.4.0.0 This works perfectly on the ~amd64 arch with sun's Java 1.5 sdk.

Thanks for bumping this!
Comment 17 Patrizio Bassi 2006-05-14 14:11:27 UTC
can you bump the source version to lastest 2.4.0.2? seems working.

This problem is now fixed by forcing Azureus to use ecj.
Comment 19 Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-13 05:48:02 UTC
I package.masked the ~arch versions of azureus-bin to help in the migration progress.

Comment 21 Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-14 09:54:13 UTC
Ok we should finally be able to go stable with the from sources azureus. I just added azureus-2.5.0.0-r3 that fixes bug #145908. If you are not confortable with that revision go with -r2. Just check that you take care of the bugs this bug depends on first (marking deps).
Comment 22 Markus Meier gentoo-dev 2006-10-14 14:48:36 UTC
1. emerges fine on x86
2. passes collision test
3. gui shows up etc. but didn't download anything, firewall seems to block it.

Seems to work on ppc, but we have a problem with swt in combination with ibm-jdk-bin-1.5, which makes it rahter uncomfortable to use. See bug #148999.
So adding that bug as dependency.

But you marked it stable any way. Yeah, I agree that swt should be fixed before net-p2p/azureus is ready for stable on pcc.
Comment 32 Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-01-19 21:36:25 UTC
ppc: I restricted Azureus so that java-config always runs it with 1.4 so you should be able to mark it stable now. Please test with user/system vm set to 1.5 and see that goes with 1.4. This was made possible with the latest java-config so you need that stable.
Comment 33 Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-01-19 21:37:55 UTC

With the new java-config, azureus is fine, but swt needs to be stabled too and the problem with that still hasn't gone away: bug #148999. Any progress on that one?

There is nothing else using swt than azureus so as we force 1.4 here, there can't be anything running swt with 1.5 on ppc.

What do you mean azureus is fine? I haven't committed any modifications to it yet as amd64 has not keyworded java-config yet.

How about people that use swt to develop their own apps? Or do they not count because they're not in the dependancy tree? :)

Fine as in that I see text in the user interface where it wasn't before. Since you didn't fix it and the only other thing that changed here recently is the upgrade to dev-java/ibm-jdk-bin-1.5.0.3-r1, maybe there is some fix in the jdk...

Yes that is an issue, but how many people who develop their own swt apps do it using Gentoo packaged swt on ppc?

Removed net-p2p/azureus-bin with a move to net-p2p/azureus.
