I have two systems sis chipset via c2 and a via chipset, sempron 2600 with a GeForce4 MX 440 AGP x8. I use fbdev in xorg and vesa-tng in the kerenl. with gentoo-sources-2.6.13 I run at 1200x1024 in the console and in xorg. When I use 2.6.14 the sis box this works. Probably because of the sisusb[vga] patch in 2.6.14-rc1 git summuary. The geforce box is stuck in 1024x768 for both console and xorg, the vesafb-tng 1.0-rc1-r1 patch in the gentoo-sources? Ive tried both vesa and vesa-tng, 2.6.14 and -r2. If I go back to 2.6.13 fbdev works fine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge gentoo-sources-2.6.14+ 2.statrxfce4 3. Actual Results: stuck at 1024x768 Expected Results: screen should be 1200x1024 Portage 2.0.53_rc7 (default-linux/x86/2005.1, gcc-3.4.4, glibc-2.3.5-r2, 2.6.13-gentoo-r4 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.13-gentoo-r4 i686 AMD Sempron(tm) 2600+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.13 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2, 2.4.2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.20 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -Os -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe " CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -Os -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe " DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig buildpkg distlocks sandbox sfperms strict userpriv" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com http://mirror.datapipe.net/pub/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.ucsb.edu/pub/mirrors/linux/gentoo/" MAKEOPTS="-j5 " PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/include/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X alsa apache2 async audiofile avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 cdb cdr chroot cpdflib crypt cups curl dba dillo divx4linux doc eds emboss encode esd exif expat fam fbdev foomaticdb fpx freetype gd gdbm gif glut gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 idn imagemagick imlib ipv6 javascript jpeg kde lcms ldap libwww live lynxkeymap lzw lzw-tiff mad mikmod mmx mmx2 mng motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mpeg4 ncurses network nptl nptlonly ogg oggvorbis opengl openssh oss pam pcre pdflib perl php player png ppds python qt quicktime readline real rtc ruby samba sdl slang spell sse ssl tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1 type1-fonts udev unicode vim vorbis win32codecs xine xml2 xmms xv xvid zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS
Michal, can you take this please?
A few things: 1) What driver do you use in xorg? 2) Could you please provide: the output from 'fbset -i' when running both 2.6.14 and 2.6.13 and the contents of your /proc/cmdline when running 2.6.14?
This was a dumb bug :( I missed typed several times 1024x768@75 with 1024x768x75. That straighten out the consul and re-running xorgcfg fixed X.
