It would be nice to see another section added to the X guide about fonts. It should explain how to turn on antialiasing and other things in /etc/fonts and possibly give a suggestion about using the nice bistream vera font family. Some more info: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Xorg_and_Fonts http://www.gnome.org/fonts/
Does bug 108642 contain the needed information? It only requires someone with knowledge on X and Fonts to comment to get it used.
Yes, looks like that bug is on the same topic. However the content there needs to be improved - theres really no need to talk about X font paths since they simply aren't used in a modern desktop. There are some inconsistencies too - he talks about setting X font paths, but then runs fc-cache (the fontconfig update utility, unrelated).. Additionally the 6th comment says he isn't planning to talk about anti aliasing etc, which is pretty much the main reason I am requesting this. So, if you are happy for the guide on bug 108642 to take a change of direction then please dup this bug. I'd be happy to tell Jack what he needs to know. I agree that having its own guide (like Jacks proposal) is better than my original suggestion of adding to the X guide. There are subjects in Jack's work that I didn't consider and are definately worth talking about.
