I am trying a firsttime install stage 3.

When trying to run emerge sys-kernel/gentoo-sources, I received this message:

Access violation summary:

LOGFILE="tmp/sandbox-gentoo-sources-2.4.19-r9-2885.log

open-wr: /mnt/gentoo/poasWrru
unlink: /mnt/gentoo/poasWrru

gentoo 1.4rc1 cd
downloaded stage3 athlon i686 t-bird 1.4rc1

Actually, I've done this two or three times. Each time I get basically the same
error message although the file or directory is different. It's
/mnt/gentoo/poasstrangeword1, then it's /mnt/gentoo/strangeword2

At the point I have run the command I'm in / and I've already run chroot
/mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
# env-update
Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
# source /etc/profile

I'm rather new to gentoo, so perhaps I have made some goof, but I had the exact
same error when I made xfs partition and tried to emerge sys-kernel/xfs-sources.

I just used the default USE options. (i.e., I didn't change anything).
