The glibc-2.3.5-r1 ebuild calls gcc with option -fno-stack-protector wich it does not understand. gcc --version reports: gcc (GCC) 3.3.6 (Gentoo 3.3.6). A search in the online manuals (option summary) on gcc.gnu.org found no such option "-fno-stack-protector" in all gcc versions from gcc 3.3.5 to gcc 4.0.1.
