I use gensplash boot splash with kernel 2.6.12-gentoo-r6 I've compiled kernel wit #genkernel --gensplash=livecd-2005.1 etc.. When booting all works fine except that boosplash goes verbose before starting xdm (I mean /etc/init.d/xdm). I tried to add splash rc to boot and then to default level and then to remove it. But nothing changed... It's not very important to fix this but anyone who used another distro before thinks that something went wrong in the boot process if splash goes verbose... Excuse me for my bad english Thanks Simone Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. At which point exactly does it switch to verbose? Is it right before /etc/init.d/xdm is started? What version of splashutils are you using? What's the setting of SPLASH_VERBOSE_ON_ERRORS in /etc/conf.d/splash? Does changing it to "no" improve anything?
I use splashutils-1.1.9.8 My SPLASH_VERBOSE_ON_ERRORS in /etc/conf.d/splash is "no". I mean that the bootsplash goes verbose when is 100% with the message: >loading KDM OK >gentoo@localhost login: The same thing happens when halting/rebooting. Before starting bootsplash i see a verbose screen. I use in grub.conf: kernel /boot/kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.12-gentoo-r9 root=/dev/ram0 >real_root=/dev/hdb6 init=/linuxrc ramdisk_size=8192 >video=vesafb:ywrap,pmipal,1024x768 splash=silent,fadein,theme:livecd-2005.1 >quiet CONSOLE=/dev/tty1 initrd /boot/initramfs-genkernel-x86-2.6.12-gentoo-r9
Please have a look at http://dev.gentoo.org/~spock/projects/gensplash/faq.php#q12 I'm afraid that's the best we can do at this time.
