Description Nicola 2005-09-13 03:41:11 UTC
On dual xeon + ht systems I see only two processor with
vanilla-sources-2.6.12.5, vanilla-sources-2.6.13 and gentoo-sources-2.6.13-r1

gentoo-sources-2.6.12-r10 see 4 processors

kernel configuration is the same for all kernels:

CONFIG_SMP=y
CONFIG_NR_CPUS=4
CONFIG_SCHED_SMT=y

On this system I need kernel-2.6.13 because 2.6.12 give an oops with multipath:

Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000000
 printing eip:
f8f262c8

Please use the attachment feature to attach large files.

If possible, it would be useful to see the output from a 2.6.12 dmesg where 4
processors are being seen.
Comment 8 Nicola 2005-09-16 03:33:04 UTC
sorry, kernel-2.6.12-gentoo-r12 give me oops with multipath, so I unmerged, now
the system is in production I cannot reboot today, maybe saturday

this means you cannot reproduce my error? I posted my problem to Italian forum
and there are other people with my same issue, so I think was general ...
Comment 9 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-09-16 04:21:48 UTC
Heh, if I had a dual xeon I would be more than happy to try and reproduce it,
but I somehow doubt this issue affects my Athlon XP machine :)

I found a similar report on the Linux kernel mailing list. It looks like the
problem is solved when you enable ACPI support in the kernel. This means
enabling CONFIG_PM and CONFIG_ACPI - when you get a chance, please let us know
how this works out :)
Comment 10 Nicola 2005-09-17 04:38:08 UTC
Thanks this solve the issue,

Nicola
