Yes, I have searched on the web and seen this complained about and resolved, but none of the resolutions have helped me. Here is what I know: I downloaded a 2.6 kernel and used that with some success. I was using a 2.4 kernel before that and had to go back to it. At that time, about a year ago, I moved and lost my internet access. I am at a friend's house using his internet connection. In the meanwhile I have taken a class and there is a scant possibility that I corrupted the data in the 2.6 kernel source tree. That wouldn't be a problem except I can't run emerge now because of the complaint from above. I have tried the suggestion from portage: 'rm -Rf /usr/portage/profiles; emerge sync and that did nothing at all. I have been able to work myself around into a corner where I delete the /etc/make.profile and re-link it to a /usr/portage/src/....2004.2 That doesn't work. I also have tried linking it to the /usr/portage/....2005.0 and still, I end up in the same fix. What do I do? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge -u world 2. 3. Actual Results: The str complaint Expected Results: emerging of everything on my system for hours and hours. processor is an amd 32 bit processor
please attach: output of emerge info and change the summary to reflect what program failed to compile
