I can launch kaffeine without problems, but once I try to start playing back an arbitrary video it freezes the complete X window system. I cannot even move my mouse nor is anything else on the screen refreshed. I can only remotely login to the box at this point and notice that X is taking 100% CPU. I tried several movies; all the same problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. launch kaffeine 2. select a video 3. start playback or launch kaffeine with a video file as argument, the result is the same. Actual Results: kaffeine and entire X freezes. Expected Results: no freeze, playing back the video ;) Portage 2.0.51.22-r2 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.4.4, glibc-2.3.5-r1, 2.6.13-rc5-mm1 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.13-rc5-mm1 i686 VIA Nehemiah Gentoo Base System version 1.12.0_pre5 dev-lang/python: 2.3.4-r1, 2.4.1-r1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.18-r1 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-Os -march=i686 -msse -mmmx -mfpmath=sse -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-Os -march=i686 -msse -mmmx -mfpmath=sse -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" LANG="de_DE@euro" LINGUAS="de" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X alsa apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr crypt cups curl dvb eds emboss encode esd fam foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 imagemagick imlib ipv6 jack jpeg kde lcms libg++ libwww mad mikmod mmx motif mp3 mpeg ncurses nls ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl plugin png python qt quicktime readline samba sdl soundtouch spell sse ssl tcltk tcpd theora tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts vorbis xine xml2 xmms xv zlib linguas_de userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, MAKEOPTS
Please reopen if you can reproduce it with a standard kernel and with basic CFLAGS.
Hu? Are you serious with just resolving this bug as "invalid"??? I don't have any other package which has such a severe problem like kaffeine. This problem is persistent for several kernel versions I tried so far and I don't see why my CFLAGS should be odd...
So it happens with which kernels? With a gentoo or vanilla kernel? Does it happen with kaffeine and X compiled with CFLAGS="-O2 -march=i686 -pipe"? Also, do you have any xorg extension enabled? Which video drivers do you use? Have you tried different drivers? Does it happen with older versions of kaffeine? Please reopen after proding these basic informations.
