It would be very helpful if etc-update could, if configured to do so, distinguish a stock config file from one which had been modified, and auto-merge the new versions of any unmodified files. I suspect that relatively few of us wish to read the changes between standard config files, and it is often difficult to pick out the files changed by hand from the larger list of files with non-trivial changes in the newer versions. With such an option, many fewer of us would find ourselves with 50+ config files to process on a regular basis. It would also be nice to be able to auto-merge changed binary files, such as /etc/udev/scripts/usb_id (which is an executable). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
It's a duplicate of bug 48505.
As this is essentially a request to merge unmodified configuration files automatically, I'm marking this as a dupe of Bug 11763. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 11763 ***
