Originally, after installation, I was unable to run amSynth as an ordinary user. However, it worked ok when ran as root. After some googling about I found out that the current kernels doesn't allow running binaries with setuid root. The permissions of the actual amSynth binary, /usr/libexec/amSynth.bin, are set to 6711 (-rws--s--x). I followed the advice found on http://ccrma-mail.stanford.edu/pipermail/planetccrma/2005-February/008221.html and chmodded the binary to 755. After that I was able to run amSynth as my humble self without any problems, and according to the mentioned post, there seems to be no performance loss. Maybe the amSynth.bin permissions should be set to 755 as default, instead of 6711? At least it would save new users a lot of head-scratching :) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
