Description Sami Dalouche 2002-11-03 03:43:30 UTC
it seems the jabber ebuild doens't install files at the correct place :
- the following files are CONFIGURATION files, and should be installed
in /etc/jabber, for example
 * aimtrans.xml
 * confserv.xml
 * icqtrans.xml
 * jabber.xml
 * judserv.xml
 * msntrans.xml
 * multiple.xml
 * yahootrans.xml

the jabber server's home should NOT be in /usr/jabber-version to be FHS
compliant (/usr/lib/jabber-version would be better).
Same for the spool directory /usr/jabber-version/spool : it should be moved
to /var/lib/jabber-version-spool, for example

I'm in the process of making a new jabber-server revision (which currently still uses pth 1.4.1), it would be great if you guys could test it and help me build a kickass jabber server :o) It's not finished, i'll tell you that, so please only install this (r2), on a non-critical/b0rkage-garanteed machine :o) I'm ironing out all the flaws one by one, would be cool if you guys gimme a hand at that!

(Please don't forget to emerge sync before you start to test!)

I'm OK about testing the new Jabber-server ebuild, but where can I find it ?
Added to that, could you also add the icq-v7 transport ? ICQ over AIM is OK,
ICQ-v7 transport is better.
thanks

Sam

It's masked in the Portage tree. This ebuild is running on the dev-only gentoo server now, but the only things that seem to work are jabber and msn :( aim/icq and yahoo can be registered, but they won't go online. icqv7-t is used when you're using gcc 3.2, otherwise it isn't compiled.. Although i don't think icqv7 install fine now (have to add this). I hope you could maybe audit the config files (which are in /etc/jabber/) and add a valid "icqtrans.xml-v7" file? i will then mv that file to icqtrans.xml if using gcc 3.x, otherwise, an "icqtrans.xml-aim" file will be moved to icqtrans.xml. Thanks! Speak to me on IRC if you have further input maybe?

Also, please check 6650 now for updates on this topic, since it's a duplicate. Thanks!
