Well, my nickname (dju`) contains a ` which isn't supported in the forums usernames at the moment. phpBB complains about it when I try to change something in my profile, but the profile page within the "gentoo-redesign" theme doesn't allow me to edit the nickname. As a result, I can't modify anything in my profile. I believe the ` character was allowed before, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to register at that time. I suggest that characters like ` should be allowed. A workaround would have been to ask some admin to rename myself to "dju", but there is already a forum account with username "dju".
Special characters can cause problems with phpbb. Do you have an alternate you'd prefer?
This issue should be fixed in htdocs/includes/usercp_register.php revision 1.3. Needs testing. Not on forums.gentoo.org yet.

Update to phpbb 2.0.19 broke it (caused by phpbb_clean_username()). Reopening. http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-projects/forums/htdocs/includes/usercp_register.php?r1=1.8&r2=1.9 Thanks to dju` for reporting.
Actually I couldn't even log in (incorrect user, incorrect password or disabled account). So I tried to reactivate my account, but it appeared it was already activated. Then I requested a new password, I got it by mail and I used it to log in. Login looked fine (no error message), but my username didn't show up on the main page, and it seemed I was still anonymous.
I've tried this locally and can log in and edit the profile are you sure that it's not a cookie problem as shown here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-397945.html
Closing this as NEEDINFO for now, please reopen it if you're still having problems.
I'm still having the problem. Might be related to bug #144905?
Mmmh, looks like it actually works, after asking for a new password and reactivating my account. Thanks!
