A new snapshot of the Cairo drawing library is out. I'm very eager to use this library with the pycairo bindings. However, since SVG-enabled mozilla and mozilla-firefox are written against an earlier cairo-0.3.0, I have not been able to use newer snapshots of the cairo packages. Based on this release announcement, it would be greatly appreciated if either a) ebuilds for packages written for an old cairo-0.3 simply used a local copy to build, or b) slotting was used to allow a cairo-0.3 and newer cairo-0.6 and so on until cairo-1.0 is released. All things being equal, I'd rather just have the incompatible packages use their own copy of an old cairo-0.3. Thanks. So, barring any discovery of something disastrous in the API, what's there now will be in 1.0. Of course, we still can make API additions before 1.0, and we have a few planned.
