The kernel boot option "CONSOLE=/dev/tty1", required in order to have a splash screen on booting, rebooting and shutting down, causes problems to many initscripts (e.g.: dcron, hddtempd, fetchmail) : the corresponding services do not start, although "OK" is displayed and without any error message in system log or elsewhere Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. add to the runlevel in inittab the relevant services (dcron, hddtempd, etc.) 2. boot with silent or verbose bootpslash and the required kernel boot option "CONSOLE=/dev/tty1" 3. Actual Results: The corresponding services do not start, although a green "OK" is displayed and there is no error message in system log or elsewhere. If I try to restart the services (e.g.: /etc/init.d/dcron restart) a warning appears that the script ha already been started. On the contrary, if I "zap" and start the services (e.g., /etc/init.d/dcron zap && /etc/init.d/dcron start), everything works fine. Expected Results: The services should start, without any connection with kernel boot options required by another service. If I remove the "CONSOLE="/dev/tty1" boot option, everything works fine, but I have no splash screen (and a warning message about that same boot option).
Actually, hddtemp should be fixed starting with hddtemp-0.3_beta13..
Ok, you are right. I am sorry not to have verified with the newest hddtemp. I verified both stable and unstable (for x86) version for dcron (2.9-r2 and 2.9-r4) and fetchmail 6.2.5.2 (all profiles for x86 archietctures): the problem persists. If the problem concerns other service, please integrate my bug report. (In reply to comment #1) > Actually, hddtemp should be fixed starting with hddtemp-0.3_beta13..
