AFAIK the taken course of action is to apply -DH5_USE_16_API to HDF5-1.8 where needed and wait for the upstream to migrate (see bug #279615 ) However I would be grateful if you could file a bug regarding specific packages failing with HDF5-1.8, like in bug #275382 (octave-3.0.x) Patches for octave-3.2.x are waiting for upstream approval: https://www-old.cae.wisc.edu/pipermail/bug-octave/2009-August/009329.html Thanks, just filed #289172 against (labplot). Hi Evgeny, Thanks for your report and we won't be slotting hdf5. As Kacper suggested, if you notice a broken package (there shouldn't be too many) please file a bug and we'll fix it.
